Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and Sen. John Thune’s (R-S.D.) airboat tour of the Everglades on Friday.

“We appreciate Senators Nelson and Thune for their attention to Florida’s wetlands, an integral part of our state’s identity as the ‘Fishing Capital of the World.’ Thank you also to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner Ron Bergeron for arranging the informative tour. As a voice for Florida’s 3 million recreational anglers, we continue to push for measures that will expedite the restoration and recovery of the Everglades,” said Kellie Ralston, ASA’s Florida Fishery Policy Director.

Sen. Nelson, ranking member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, invited Sen. Thune, chairman of the committee, on a tour of the Everglades to highlight the importance of federal support for its restoration. Prior to the tour, Ralston met with Sens. Nelson and Thune, and Commission Bergeron to discuss the ongoing need for Everglades restoration projects and its importance to Florida’s $9.6 billion sportfishing industry.
